Kimberley Wet Season

WAX3381

Hi everyone out there in Cyberspace.

I just wanted to thank you all for your interest and your support of my work. Without you all I would not be able to do what I love most and that is being out in the beauty of creation taking photos.

Because you are all so special to me I thought you may be interested in some of the adventures I go on. So, from time to time over the year, I will endeavor to share with you some of the more exciting expeditions.

I have just returned from one of the best trips I have ever been on in my life. I travelled into the Kimberly region of Western Australia in the middle of the wet season - and Wow! It was spectacular.

The Kimberly Coastline area is rich with exotic locations, The Vertical Waterfalls, Montgomery Reef, Mitchell Falls, King George Falls, Kings Cascades and too many more to mention in this short update.

I travelled on a beautiful ship called the "True North" which even has its own helicopter on board. What a wonderful way to travel! And it really is the only way you can get into this remote area of the Kimberley at this time of year. Access is difficult at the best of times, because roads are virtually non-existent. But monsoonal rains make the terrain and rivers almost impossible to cross.

"True North" holds about 33 guests in serious luxury and they have about 20 staff to look after the passengers. They have six run about boats, so there's always plenty to do without having to deal with too many people.

On a couple of occasions during my 12 day trip, they flew us into really isolated waterfall locations for a 5-star barbecue. They provided everything you could ever wish for, including fresh caught barramundi and mud crabs.

Many of the guests were into fishing and this area is a fisherman's paradise. I didn't have time to fish - I was too busy taking photos. The visual stimulus was so overwhelming that I will have to return next year. It was just impossible to capture everything I saw. I felt like a kid in a candy store.

The food and everything else about the journey was out of this world. Here you are floating around in one of our planet's most pristine wilderness areas, totally removed from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Now that I have been totally spoilt, it will be hard to get back into my swag and camp cooking. But to me it really doesn't matter how I get out into nature's beauty, as long as I get out there.

One day when I returned from my trip, I was running late and hurrying to get to an appointment, when I saw a sign beside a busy highway that read, "If life is all about the Journey, then why are we in such a rush?" To me, that's a really good question. And that day it certainly slowed me down.

Hopefully some of the stills images I have captured on my adventures will be a blessing to you on your journey - like this one of King George Falls in the height of the wet season. There is something wonderful about nature - it really helps us stop and think.
