There are few experiences in nature more exhilarating than watching waves smash onto a rocky shore. But it can be perilous too, as many rock fishermen have found out in often tragic circumstances. You have to learn to keep a constant eye on the magnitude of the waves. Their size can vary in a moment, and you can be dragged from the supposed ‘safety’ of the rocks and sucked into the cauldron. I love the sheer power of this shot, with the blast of spray shooting into the light. But after getting this photograph, the very next wave totally covered me and my camera. I was fortunate it wasn’t strong enough to suck me off the rock shelf.
