Beside a bush track, in the desolation of Western Australia´s scrub country, a rush of spring flowers dots the barrenness with a spray of pink and yellow. The vibrancy is both spectacular and surprising. The soils here are sandy–almost desert. Yet every springtime, this miracle of colour somehow erupts upon the landscape. I love the imagery of this scene – a bare and shrivelled tree, silhouetted against its surroundings, is engulfed in magnificent wildflowers. This wide "Megapan" shot takes the viewer right into the midst of the flower bed, a reminder that beauty can explode in even the most unpromising locations.
