This image was one of the highlights for me from my commissioned work when invited by a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family to photograph the largest of the United Arab Emirates. The Sheikh was kind enough to make one of his helicopters available and we went up this day to shoot some of the islands that were being developed. Amidst the swampy mangroves, I spotted a flock of flamingos. As we maneuvered over the top of them - with me hanging right out on the helicopter’s skid - they took flight and I was able to grab this delightful shot. I noticed that the development was replacing much of the region’s natural beauty and found myself wondering how much longer the flamingos will be able to inhabit this area.
