Visiting this area in the traditional ‘leaf peeping’ season, I discovered I was one of the few people motivated to take a close look. Most trippers seemed content to sit in the comfort of their large cars. In one place there was a traffic jam of limousines - the occupants all trying to enjoy the colors of the fall without actually stepping into the woods! How glad I was to wander "off the track" below Waterloo Covered Bridge. Here I was able to appreciate the most intimate details of the stream - the gurgle of tumbling water and the dappled patterns of the boulders and banks. How much richer our worlds become when we step out of our air-conditioned comfort!
