hide story
I like the simplicity of this shot - the sense of space all the way to the horizon and the open cloud-flecked sky. There is also great beauty in the carpet of springtime wildflowers in the foreground. But for me the main lesson of this scene lies in the forked road. At the time, I was making my way towards Mount Wedge (seen in the background). The unmarked fork of red dirt presented the sort of conundrum that is common in the outback. Which track was the real one? I chose the left because it seemed to head more towards Mount Wedge. But I found out soon enough that both tracks linked up again anyway. It was a reminder that there’s seldom just one way to a destination in the red centre. Instead, there’s simply the way you choose to go today.
