The meeting of two worlds. On one side Mel Gibson pauses, deep in thought while his film crew mills around behind him. On the other side Maia Morgenstern (Jesus´ mother) and Monica Bellucci (Mary Magdalene) concentrate on staying in character in case they are called upon for another take. "I love this shot of Mel," says Ken Duncan. "It´s symbolic of the two great influences in his life: the movie world and his love for the mother of Jesus and for what Christ went through for him." For Mel Gibson, every scene was critically important. As director he went to great lengths to ensure the story of Christ´s suffering was told as authentically and powerfully as possible. Says Ken, who has known Mel well for many years, "This was not just another movie for him."
