A single eucalypt, its branches splayed out towards a pastel sky, stands strong as iron in South Australia´s Flinders Ranges. To the left, a full moon rises, like a harbinger of the night. The Flinders Ranges, so ancient and arid, are renowned for their stark beauty - a beauty famously captured in the paintings of Hans Heysen. We camped here overnight, enjoying a fire and the utter solitude of the landscape. Out of view of this shot runs a watercourse, which fills just once or twice a year with the infrequent rains. Many trees cling to the creek´s margin. The tree in this photograph was the furthest from the creek bed, somehow thriving in the midst of these harsh yet spectacular surroundings.
