hide story
Australia’s southern forests hide many unexpected treasures - this is just one of them. A gentle cataract, glowing with light, flows dreamily into a forest pool. Next to the stream, and somehow clinging to its edge, is a majestic old fern tree, crowned with a spray of leaves. Its fronds appear to top the entire scene with a canopy of green, though of course this is only an effect produced by the photograph’s narrow perspective. That’s the magic of a vertical panoramic format. It can focus our eyes along just one line of sight and capture a slice of the landscape we might otherwise never notice. As evidenced in this view of Triplet Falls, the effect can be deeply enchanting.
