I have called this print Tread Lightly, which is actually quite ironic since I almost fell through the bridge while taking the shot. I had to balance precariously on the planks and wait a long time for the wind to subside so I could shoot with a slow shutter speed for the large depth of field. If you look, you can still see a slight blur from the wind’s movement in the branches. But I love the result. To me, this is more of an emotive shot. The landscape is reduced to a vertical segment across the two creek banks, and the focus is on the wonderfully worn timbers of the suspension bridge and on the golden scattering of poplar leaves. The bridge is like an invitation – for the brave or the foolhardy.
