Cape Leveque is an idyllic beach location - majestic red dunes blending into pristine white beach sand, fringed with turquoise crystal water. I was here with a group of keen photographers, encouraging them to be creative and one of the major keys to photography is to always search for a different angle. Small waves were breaking on the shore, so I went into the water to shoot back towards the beach. People rarely photograph from inside the surf impact zone, especially when their camera is not waterproof. Predictably, much of my time was spent dodging waves. This was the last shot I took because when this wave hit the beach it splashed everywhere, wetting me and my gear. Thankfully I always carry a dry t-shirt with me to mop up salt water before it can affect the camera’s operations. I’m glad I got the shot, because it nearly cost me my camera.
