Known locally as ‘The Spa’, this delightful chamber in Western Australia´s Hamersley Gorge beckons the visitor like a scene from a dream. Spring-fed, it is wonderfully cool, a refuge from the burning heat of the surrounding Pilbara. The chamber itself, heart-shaped and smooth, is the product of long ages of weathering. In times of storm, gullies such as this become raging torrents of flood, the waters twisting and churning, slowly wearing the rock away into new and magnificent forms. The Australian landscape has many hidden treasures. Its rocks are of countless varieties, sizes and shapes. Photographing these places is like snapping a moment in time, their present form the work of thousands of years. In a few more years they will have changed again. We need to enjoy them while they are there!
