What I love about this photo of Split Point Lighthouse is the contrast of colour. It was a beautiful clear day not a cloud in the sky. The vertical panoramic format was perfect to capture the azure blue of the sky as well as the vibrant foreground foliage of the flowers that were once part of the lighthouse keepers garden. In days done by, the lighthouse and grounds would have been lovingly cared for by a light keeper and his family. But nowadays, in our modern cost-conscious era, nearly all Australian lighthouses are run automatically. I find that a little sad because it detracts from the personality of these important towers that signal passing ships and alert them to the dangers of rocky coastline. I have a special fondness for lighthouses. To me they are symbolic of Gods guiding light a light you can rely on to give you sure direction in troubled times.
